Carolus Marx[1] (Germanice: Karl Marx), plenius Carolus Henricus Marx (Karl Heinrich Marx ; 5 Maii 1818 – 14 Martii 1883), fuit philosophus, oeconomus, sociologus, historicus, diurnarius, ac socialista Germanus rerum novarum cupidus, cuius dogmata magnam vim in scientia oeconomica et motibus popularibus habuerunt. Varios libros divulgavit, quorum notissimi sunt Praeconium Communisticum (1848) et De Capitale (1867–1894); nonnulla opera cum collega Friderico Engels scripsit. Eius doctrina placita marxiana nominatur.


Marx Augustae Treverorum die 5 Maii 1818 natus est. Pater fuit iuris consultus Lutheranus, qui se a fide Iudaica converterat. Ab anno 1835 ad annum 1841, primum Bonnae rebus "iuris et cameralium" tum rebus gestis et philosophiae studebat. Anno 1842 et posteriori anno, scriptor erat Diarii Rhenani (Rheinische Zeitung). Anno 1843, propter statum rei publicae e Germania emigravit, et Lutetiae consedit. Eo loco, libros ad socialismum pertinentes conscripsit. Postea Bruxellis cum Friderico Engels amico Praeconium Communisticum conscripsit. Rerum novarum studio in Germania impedito et suppresso, Londinium anno 1849 refugit. Ibi habitabat ad finem vitae, ubi etiam primum ex tribus librum operis De Capitale constituit. Obiit Londinii die 14 Martii 1883.
