Postquam maturitatem anno 1961 adeptus est, Schäuble Friburgi ac Hamburgi oeconomiae et iurisprudentiae studebat atque 1966 primam, anno 1970 secundam probationem
accepit. Anno 1971 doctor iurisprudentiae promotus est. Annis 1971 - 1978 minister publicus pro fisco Badeniae-Virtembergiae, tum ad annum 1984 iurisconsultus laboravit.

Ab anno 1961 sodalis Unionis iuvenilis erat, anno 1965 etiam CDU accessit. Ab anno 1972 Schäuble legatus Dietae Foederalis Germaniae est.[1] Inter annos 1984 et 1989 Administer Foederalis Officiorum Praecipuorum et praepositus Officii Cancellarii Foederalis erat, tum Administer Foederalis Rerum Internarum ab anno 1989 ad usque 1991, ab anno 1991 ad annum 2000 praeses factionis CDU in Dieta Foederalis Germaniae erat, et 1998 ad annum 2000 praeses totius CDU. Sed propter stipes non legitimos hoc officium relinquere debuit. Anno 2005 in magna coalitione a Cancellaria Angela Merkel iterum Administer Foederalis Internarum Rerum factus est. Anno 2009 post electionem Dietae Foederalis Administer Foederalis Aerarii Publici a cancellaria Angela Merkel nominatus est. Et 2013 in consilio ministrorum tertio Angelae Merkel iterum administer aerarii publici nominatus est.[2] Die 24 Octobris 2017 novus praeses Dietae Foederalis Germaniae electus est.[3]
