I'm new to warhammer 40k. What's a good starter book for the overall lore and backstory of the 40k universe? I just bought first strike and would like to learn more about the 40k universe.

Hi, welcome to SF&F! Asking for recommendations doesn't really work well here due to the question-and-answer format. Check out How to Ask to write better questions or see the help center for pointers about what's on topic. You might also want to take the tour to learn more about the site.

  • @DavidW - The OP will not have enough reputation to be able to be in chat without a moderator's assistance... And for the OP: Honestly, you want to start with a rulebook. Pretty much any edition, but a rulebook will give you the best overall lore and backstory. From there you can decide on factions and figure out what you want to learn more about. If that is not as possible you can play around at Lexicanum (this page is a good starting point in my opinion). Hopefully a moderator will open a chat for you and you can get some more info...
